Toy Organizing with Kid's Storage Bins

Kids Toy Storage Bins

Toy Storage Bins for Organizing a Child's Bedroom

Keeping a child's bedroom neat and tidy is often a matter of putting away toys. And that's where toy storage bins come in very handy. So handy in fact that we may even convince our children to tidy up by themselves.

Think of all the little pieces that so many toys have. Building sets, doll clothes and accessories, play towns and cars. The list could go on and on. The boxes these toys come in usually make a poor choice for storage. So we need to add something else for our kids.

Useful in Decorating for a Kid's Bedroom

Toy storage bins can be a useful addition when we think about our child's bedroom decor. The colors can go with many themes, or you can get neutral or solid colors to complement your child's decor.

Think how much better the look will be if the room is tidy. You just spent some of your time and money to create a bedroom that your child loves. Whether it's the favorite TV character or favorite activity, your child is happy to be in his or her room. So make sure the collection of toys and small pieces have an easy place to be kept. That will help your kid put away those toys at the end of play.

Kid's Decisions with Toy Storage Bins

It's important for kids to have some say in how their room is decorated. That should also include their toy storage bins. You probably included their decision about the color and look of the storage bins. Now let them make decisions about what toys go where.

Certainly, you as the parent have suggestions to make things easier. But, when your kid decides how to organize his or her own toy storage bin, they will have more reason to keep it organized. And we are always happy for an additional reason. So involve them in each decision along the way with their toy storage bins.

Add Organizers for Nusery Decor

When thinking about decorating the nursery, remember organizers for all the extra stuff babies need. From diaper organizers to closet organizers, these things not only come in handy, but they make great gift ideas as well.

Even if you intend to hide away your supplies, clothes, and equipment for the baby, keeping them under control and ready when you need them just makes life easier. And let's admit it. Life with a new baby needs all the help it can get.

Nursery Planning is More Just the Color Scheme

When it's time to get the nursery planning underway, you're going to be thinking of lots of things. Not just the color of the walls. Of course, you'll also be thinking about the furniture, the pictures on the walls, and all the accessories: lamps, curtains, blankets, etc.

So think about how you want to organize the baby supplies as well. Just for diaper changes you'll need plenty of supplies at hand. Then imagine all the extra clothes, bedding, blankets, toys, even bath items. Organizing them all should be part of your nursery planning.

You'll Want Nursery Organizers

If you plan to tuck away baby supplies in drawers and closets, the look of the organizer won't be so important. But function will always be important. Consider what you want to store where and how accessible it should be.

If you plan to display an organizer or two on top of, say a dresser or table, you want to make sure you have just the right look to blend with your nursery theme or decor. But, don't forget function. The organizer needs to have space for every type of item you want to store, but also room so that you don't need to refill it too often.

Think of a diaper changing organizer. Who wants to have a messy baby's bottom only to discover the wipes container is empty.

So take that little extra time to plan for organizers while you plan your nursery. Add in the ones that make sense for your space, decor and budget. Plus, make sure you choose those with the best function for taking care of your new baby.

Decorating the Nursery: Sports Theme

With the new baby on the way, decorating the nursery is a special event for the family. Sports loving parents will certainly enjoy creating a sports theme for new little one. That is what I found out.

Family of Sports Fans

My nephew was on the way. My brother was adamant that the nursery decor needed to get his future son off to the right start - sports. Now, I have to admit that my sister-in-law is also a big sports fan. She has the best Super Bowl party in the neighborhood. So a sports themed nursery seemed like a pretty good fit for their first child.

My suggestion was to start with the biggest piece first. In a nursery, that's the crib. So off we went looking for great options for sports theme crib bedding. And the choices were numerous. Seems that a sports theme for nursery decor is popular.

Since the family is a fan of many different types of sports, both watching and playing, we wanted something that represented more than just football.

Getting the Color Scheme Right

I highly recommend that a nursery color scheme needs to be one that both parents will enjoy. They want to spend lots of time in the nursery, so they need colors that are pleasing.

When we found the right look for the sports, as well as in a color scheme that they could both enjoy, we had a hit. Then it was time to look for other accessories.

Adding Accessories to the Sports Theme Nursery Decor

Once we had the big pieces for the crib, choosing the other accessories was easier. A sports crib mobile was a must. Then came little storage boxes for all those extras that a baby needs. They chose solid colors to match the colors in the crib bedding.

When we added some darling wall decals in different sports balls, the room look great. My nephew has a great sports theme nursery. Then my niece was due and the sports theme nursery had a few changes in color, but otherwise worked great for her as well. It's a family of sports fans, after all.

For Kids Rooms: Night Lights and More

Kids are notorious for being afraid of the dark. So things like night lights and wall lights make good additions to their rooms. Besides, we like to think of them as safety devices. With a little light, kids can see to get to the bathroom, or get safety with moms and dads from those nightmares.

As long as a little extra light is one of those basics for a child's room, why not make it part of the decor? A simple little addition in your child's decorating theme can help with the great look.

Of course, you can find creative and custom night lights for your child's bedroom, but there are also some fun ones that look just as great when they aren't lit. Cute shapes and looks are ideal to go with just about any room decor.

But look for the solid colors that can be add to the over all theme of the bedroom. Like, a Disney Princess bedroom would look charming with a pink flower wall light. For doing a Spiderman themed bedroom, try a dark blue moon as a night light.

And don't forget monogram night lights for kids. Those make some of the most delightful and charming additions to your child's bedroom. Best of all, they make great gifts for kids as well. I've got several in mind for my granddaughters. Now I just have to decide which ones to pick! Oh my, decisions, decisions!

Night lights and wall lights for kids just seem to be one of those necessities. So pick ones that will match or complement your child's bedroom decor or theme.

Henry Plaid Collection for the Baby's Room

Henry Plaid Baby Blanket
Decorating the nursery can be easy. Especially when you choose a matching line of items like the Henry Plaid Collection. The whole collection came about out of need. The need to have a unique, fun and interesting look for the baby's room.

A look that simply wasn't available in the store-bought collections. That's what my niece found as she looked for decor for her soon-to-be-born son, Henry. That's when I stepped in with my skills at home decorating, graphic artistry and quilt designing. The end result was the Henry Plaid.
Henry Plaid Jungle Theme

I was able to put the design on various items via the Zazzle.com line of home and baby products. She chose each one to coordinate a charming baby's room for Henry.

Two blankets formed the center. One hung on the wall opposite the crib, while the other one was laid over the crib rail. A wall clock, always essential, along with a table lamp and a night light made the decor coordinated. Since she had an antique rocker, we added a decorative pillow.
Storage Jar for Baby's Room

A few little extras were included. A storage jar to hold those loose items that always seem to show up and a serving tray to keep all the essentials close at hand. My gift to her was a treasure box with the Henry Plaid design.

The baby's room came together in a most charming way. A way that she never dreamed would be as delightful. The whole line of items is available at the Henry Plaid Coordinates. Including those same items with a jungle theme.

Necessary Nursery: Baby Changing Tables

There are some things that are just plain necessary in a nursery. One of those is the baby changing table. As parents, we will be changing baby diapers many, many times. It's just one of those facts of life. So why not get a baby changing table that works with your nursery?

Unless you are really lucky, finding places to store all the stuff a baby needs and gets can be a hassle. Just the diaper changing stuff can be a lot. And, I'm talking about more than the diapers themselves. There are all sorts of little extras that we tend to need in the nursery at diaper-changing time.

Besides the extra diapers, there are baby wipes, powders, lotions, even spare clothes. All of this needs to be handy when we are changing the baby. After all, you can't leave the little one laying naked on the table while you go search for something.

So baby changing tables that have handy storage areas become more of a necessity than a luxury. But, there are really tons of options for us to pick from. So you need to think about what you need versus what you can afford.

Then you also want to think about this piece of furniture as part of your nursery decor. Do you want it to match the crib and other nursery furniture? Do you want to paint it? Add wall decals for decorating to it? Do you need it to fit in a certain place, so the size of the changing table matters to you.

These are all things to consider before you decide on which baby changing table to get. You'll want to look at lots of choices. After all, this is a piece of nursery furniture you will be using very often. Make sure it's just what you want.

Creating a Dora the Explorer Bedroom for Girls

Yes, it's true. I have a granddaughter who is completely in love with Dora the Explorer. And she now wants to have her bedroom decorated in a Dora look. Her mother pleaded with me to help her out!

So, we came up with a charming grouping just for a little girl's bedroom. The Dora the Explorer world is available in many different items that can come together as a great look for a child's bedroom.

As always, when I begin a decorating project, I choose the largest piece first. In any bedroom, that's the bedding.  We found some fun options in the Dora the Explorer theme for bedding sets. Once we picked the bedding, we could then go on to choose what color scheme we can work with.

Dora herself is dressed in a pink shirt with blue pants. So these are easy color choices. But, the different bedding options include other colors, like yellow, blue, orange, even browns and neutral colors. There are plenty of choices for colors to work with.

Next we found some Dora wall decals. We arranged them in little exploring groups in different places around her room. One even travels from closet door to the side of her dresser. This created an absolutely charming effect with no painting or wallpapering needed.

Finally, we added a few little touches complete her look. Dora the Explorer, as a stuffed doll, sits on top of my granddaughter's bookcase. Sitting next to her is her little monkey pal.

The effect turned out to be just what she wanted and my granddaughter is thrilled. Her mother is equally thrilled. The cost of redecorating her room was well within their budget. Simple little changes and accessories made the Dora the Explorer theme come to life.
